why on earth i must register to vote? unbelievable !!!! such a nice initiative messed up by registration

How else do you recommend keeping people from voting multiple times on the same project? Registration was the only way I could reduce (not eliminate) that. If you have a good solution, please let me know.

i don’t think the ruby community is like a gaming forum where kids are voting themselves up.

i think in this case voting without registration is fair play. we are not talking about a contest here.

I do agree with the sentiment on the ruby community, but there are people out there who may spam it for ‘fun’. I thought it best to stay on the safe side and protect the integrity of the application. It’s meant to provide a useful gauge for people looking for Ruby resources.

I did think of the possible turn off, that’s why I went super light on the registration process by requiring a little as possible and adding the use of openid.

Thanks for the feedback.

stonean,

I agree with you and think the registration / openid is a good thing. This is not exposed only to the Ruby community but for the whole internet public. So it’s hard to pretend no one will abuse voting, ever. Registration is a pain, but that’s mitigated by offering open id.

Good job!

I also think that having no protection isn’t a good idea, there are always people who don’t play fair (just because they can).

Great update! One minor thing: how about giving the “I use it” link a different font and making it a bit smaller or maybe more button-ish?

Thanks for Felipe and Soleone. I will definitely update the link style per your suggestion!

im not registering and i would love to vote. why not just limit on IP + user agent and call it done?

I do like the fact that the 2 against registration commented anonymously. :)
