Ruby's Not Ready?

Ruby’s Not Ready says one Python die-hard. A 6500 word essay (diatribe?) picking apart Ruby piece by piece and explaining just how much it sucks.

I like the way he has no comments feature on that post. He’d be eaten alive!

What’s interesting about this sort of thing is that it always begs the question. After looking through it a little ways, I can tell he has some legitimate arguments, but the whole article is ruined by his presumption of authority over the idea of what constitutes a “ready” language.

I agree. I’m also very glad you’ve destined this site to great things with the correct use of ‘begs the question’! We’ve set the bar high.. let’s hope it will continue :)

Part of the problem is that he complains about things we know suck and are working on fixing (mostly in Ruby 1.9).

Part of the problem is that it’s just his opinion.

Part of the problem is that he’s not really all that familiar with Ruby, despite putting forth a pretty impressive amount of effort to use it.

Part of the problem is that he likes Python a lot, apparently, and that apparently clouds his understanding. Maybe.

Really, for such an intelligent, thorough person, he would miss the concept that coming to another language and not taking into account a paradigm shift would warp his opinion, and that his analysis was just wordy opinion.

What you just said would sum up my opinion as well. Nice job :)
