Many thanks go out to all those involved with the project so far, both on the technical and community side for their awesome work!

This release brings many new features including new graphics and animations for Omega entities and operations, optimizations and fixes to the frontend and backend, various new mechanisms through which to interact with the simulation, and more. You can view the complete changelog here.

I invite everyone to checkout today's episode of the FLOSS Weekly podcast which featured the The Omega Universe Simulator (based on Eventmachine and the Ruby JSON-RPC library RJR).

The Universe Is The Limit!
I invite everyone to checkout the latest release of the Omega Universe Simulator. Omega (based on the json-rpc protocol) provides access to query hierarchies of cosmos entities and manipulate player controlled ships and stations in an abstract / high-level manner.

Other features include a full RBAC system, a WebGL frontend, and much more. New features bring additional stability to the backend and API and expanded support to customize and tailor the user's universe as they see fit.

The project is still in its early stages and contributors and/or those just interested are more than welcome to checkout the mailing list, wiki (w/ screenshots) and live demo.

Have A Happy New Year!
In my latest blog post I discuss using bundler_ext to activate the distro-supported, system-installed (eg yum/apt-get/other) versions of dependencies described in a Gemfile while still allowing the flexibility of developer installed stacks.
