I have this issue on one project, but the fix proposed doesn’t solve the issue sadly… oh well a old un maintained project.

Try updating the version of passenger gem. As Hongli Lai notes in the comments, there was a bug in older version of passenger and whenever it writes to STDERR the app crashes.
