I think sphinx is better for full-text searching. sphinx search project thinking-sphinx gem
Only if you already use Java, otherwise use sphinx
Sphinx sucks when it comes to sorting by dynamic attributes such as values retrieved from methods. Solr + acts_as_solr_reloaded is AWESOME!
