Writers needed for Ruby Inside & Rails Inside (paid)

Writers needed for Ruby Inside & Rails Inside (paid). I am looking to take on a writer/writers for Ruby Inside and/or Rails Inside. More information inside..

Comments

Ruby Inside and Rails Inside are both growing strongly. I want them to be more varied and frequently updated, so will be bringing new writers on board. Initially I am looking to cover just 20 posts per blog per month, and, ideally, want to bring on two people, one for each blog (although it could be split between more, if necessary).

REQUIREMENTS

The post style and length required will be roughly what they are now. Posts generally vary between 75 and 300 posts. Most posts link to one interesting article or library (or a collection of resources) and feature a leading image of some sort. You would need to be familiar with Ruby Inside’s style (or a similar short-entry style) and the Ruby community generally (though you do not have to be well known). You also need to write with good syntax and spelling. Beyond that, the demands are minimal.

PAYMENT

For the aforementioned sort of post, the starting rate will be $10 per post but this would go up regularly (certainly in your second month). More will be paid for longer posts (by editorial arrangement - interviews and the like) and bonuses paid for posts that attract significant attention / get a lot of comments / etc.

WHY?

With over 100,000 pageviews per month and 16,000 subscribers, this opportunity will give you a chance to significantly raise your profile in the Ruby and Rails worlds and, hopefully, pick up a thing or two about working on a popular blog if you haven’t done so already :) No long term commitment is demanded, but if all goes to plan, extra opportunities are sure to come along.

CONTACT

If any of the above doesn’t quite fit for you but you still think you would be useful in some area or another, do get in touch as there might be other opportunities I have not yet thought about. Otherwise, get in touch with me at peter -at- petercooper -dot- co -dot- uk. Alternatively, post a comment here with questions and the like.

Correction: “Posts generally vary between 75 and 300 words.” Thanks to Caius ;-)

Hi Peter,

I wouldn’t mind writing for Rails Inside.

I often find stuff that I wouldn’t mind posting about although I prefer to keep my own blog to tutorial type stuff.

My email address is on my site if you’re interested

Are the 20 posts per month including the posts you make or in addition to those posts? Will you be stepping away from posting?

seanhussey: The volume will go up, though not to unbearable levels. It would be nice to ensure at least one per workday, sometimes two. I think that’s the most suitable level to have good coverage.

I will not be stepping away from blogging in any significant way, but one of the reasons for this development is that I want to launch another blog, as well as put a lot more focus into building up Rails Inside, so this is a great time to get other people involved. It’s essentially becoming more of a business than a hobby, but I will still be maintaining the editorial quality (indeed, it should get even better).

Jim: I will be in touch. I’m processing the enquiries this weekend, but will also drop you a mail :)

What about the occasional one-off post? Will there be a method to make submissions for people that don’t have the time/motivation to post regularly, but might have something they find particularly interesting from time to time?

Given some of the feedback I’ve had, yes, I’d really like to accommodate that, Aphelion :)

To all the others, I just want to make sure you know I am reading all your responses and will be responding in the next day or two as I figure out who the best fits are. Everyone will get a reply :)
